Let’s take a minute to ponder this idea. What is a made-up mind? What does it look like?
You see, we have often heard the phrase used in various circles and may have used this phrase ourselves. The fact of the matter appears that most of the time that people talk about having a “made-up mind,” they are using it in reference to their spiritual lives. To go a step further, the use of this phrase is most definitive when it is used in conjunction with the Christian walk/way of living.
What are some of the characteristics of a made up mind?
1. Taking a solid stance on beliefs, morals, and behaviors.
2. The unwillingness to compromise.
3. A state of obstinacy.
4. A state of determination.
Some may view this state of rigidity as being unreasonable, and calloused. However, let us remember that as Christians, we are to walk without doubt to the calling of our Heavenly Father. Having a made-up mind entails being steadfast in all that we know and believe. Having a made-up mind becomes an essential cornerstone in maintaining our faith, especially when it is properly employed. One may think that having a made-up mind develops tunnel vision; however, as we experience the complexity of God in our lives, we will see that anything other than keeping our focus on Christ only results in tunnel vision.
Given the world that we are now living in, it would behoove one to become very obstinate in their faith of the living God. Our Christian faith is continually under fire for not bending on what society wants to dictate upon our lives. Christian values and living are under constant pressures to conform and denounce the truths of the Almighty God. From the homes, to the churches, to the classrooms, to the various levels of government, it is an all out assault on righteousness as decreed by God. The world is ready to martyr the current body of Christ, in an effort to justify its own form of righteousness. This form of righteousness that is rooted in evil. Sexual promiscuity, hatred, coveting, jealousy, idolatry, and so forth are kept in the forefront of minds everywhere.
How does it look to be a person with a made-up mind? For starters, their day-to-day behavior; does it reflect the nature of God? You see, with a person who has dedicated themselves to the worthy call in Christ, they become enemies with the world. These people are viewed as “nonconformists.” Personally, I am okay with this identity. If serving God makes me a nonconformist, then I stand guilty as charged. We must understand that sin begins in the hearts and minds of us all. If we allow it to take control of our thought process, then our hearts can only follow suit. Thus developing a rigid thought process to not “willfully” go against the will of God gives us a rock to stand on.
I am reminded by James that if I submit myself to God (be set in my ways to serve and honor him), and resist the devil (the obstinate stand of faith), he will flee from me. Do understand that Satan does not for you to be steadfast in your stance with God. It places fear in the devil to the degree that he cannot stay in your presence for long.
Your made up mind will become and invitation to be challenged at any given time, place, ot setting. Stay aware, and continue to read, pray, and seek out the will of God in your life. Having a made-up mind is in your control. Thank you for allowing me to share a little bit with you in this blog. God bless you and keep you always!
